Liposuction Treatment
Vaser lipo vs traditional lipo
Liposuction has long been one of the most popular surgical procedures among Brits. In fact, the number of procedures rose by 41 per cent in 2013 compared with the previous year, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). It’s not just ladies who are getting unwanted fat removed either; liposuction is the fourth most popular treatment amongst men.
Many patients still opt for traditional lipo, but Vaser lipo is a newer and improved version of the treatment. How does it differ, though?
What is Vaser lipo?
Vaser actually stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, which basically means ultrasound. A small probe transmitting the waves is used to break up and dislodge fat. This is then removed via a thin suction tube.
What does traditional lipo involve?
By comparison, during traditional lipo procedures, the surgeon creates a small incision and inserts a suction probe, which pushes and pulls through the fat layer. This breaks up the fat tissue, allowing it to be removed via a suction pump.
Neither procedure will treat obesity, but they will permanently remove unwelcome fat, so long as you don’t put on a significant amount of weight on at a later date.
The benefits of Vaser lipo
One of the biggest advantages of Vaser lipo is that it’s a lot more accurate than the traditional method for targeting fatty tissue. This means you’re much less likely to suffer from injury, bruising and heavy blood loss.
Recovery from traditional lipo can be a lot more painful and take longer as a result. At least one overnight stay is required after a traditional procedure, whereas you can usually go straight home after Vaser (depending on the size of the procedure). Moreover, it will take you between three and four weeks to recover from traditional lipo, compared with three to four days for Vaser – allowing you to get on with your life.
Before your Vaser procedure, you’ll be put under local anaesthetic or, in very large cases, sedation. Unfortunately, general anaesthetic is necessary for traditional lipo treatments. Whilst that may not be a problem for some, others prefer to avoid general anaesthetic, as it can make you feel sick, dizzy and confused.
Despite the many benefits of Vaser, it is actually a lot cheaper than traditional lipo, especially if you are planning to have more than one area treated. You should also be aware that traditional lipo is much more difficult to retreat, unlike Vaser.
Some surgeons argue that it can be tricky to get good results from traditional lipo when it comes to fibrous tissues, so if you have love handles or bra rolls you wish to get rid of, Vaser might be the better option.
Sadly, not all fat can be removed with diet or exercise. Whichever option you choose, you can be confident that those troublesome pockets of fat will be gone for good.
