Breast Enlargement
Breast Enlargement Surgery
Breast enlargement is a type of cosmetic surgery which uses implants to increase the size of a woman’s breasts. Breast enlargement can also be known as breast augmentation and breast enhancement, and is now a very common procedure which is performed in many locations around the world. However, despite increased awareness in the public eye, women in general still know very little about what the actual breast enlargement process involves.
Only after a patient has taken due time to decide that she definitely wants to have cosmetic surgery, can the actual procedure begin. Firstly, the patient must select the type of implant that she wants. Dependant on preference and, sometimes, age, the patient has a choice of two types of implant:
Silicone implants
Silicone implants are filled with an elastic gel. Many women like them because they feel and move similar to natural breasts.
Saline implants
Saline implants are filled with salt water. They are a versatile option as they can be filled with more or less water to adjust the feel and shape of the breast.
After deciding on the type of implant, the actual surgery is then carried out, usually under a general anaesthetic. Initially, a small incision is made under or near the breast. Next, the implant is inserted under or over the chest muscle, behind the breast tissue. When the implant is ideally placed, the initial incision is closed. Breast enlargement surgery does usually leave scars, but they are often very small and in well-concealed places.
