Anti-Ageing without Invasive Cosmetic Surgery
Many women, and even some men, can feel self-conscious about the issue of ageing. It’s natural that some people want to reverse the effects of it. Undergoing facelift surgery can be a solution to the signs of ageing. However, this, like any surgery, come with some risks, and requires a long recovery time. A much less severe solution to ageing is hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid injections, like Restylane or Juvederm cosmetic fillers, can provide relief from the signs of ageing. Hyaluronic acid is found in the extracellular matrix of the skin, and acts as a ‘cushion’ between cells. It binds to water molecules and expands, giving the effect of ‘plumping’ the skin, thereby counteracting the signs of ageing. However, injecting naturally occurring hyaluronic acid into the skin will have no effect as it will be broken down and released. Restylane and Juvederm contain hyaluronic acid which is ‘cross-linked’. This increases its stability, meaning the effects can last for months at a time.
Both of these dermal fillers are usually injected into the lips and smile lines. The can also be used to smooth lines in the corner of the mouth and frown furrows. These fillers can be used to increase the fullness of the lips, increase the definition at the edges of the lips and fill out shadow lines. While having the injections, discomfort is minimal as topical anaesthetic is applied to the treated areas. Having dermal fillers can make you look up to ten years younger, and the effects of this cosmetic surgery can last for up to 6 months.
