Cosmetic Surgery
Having Breast reduction surgery
Breast reduction surgery or reduction mammaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure where excess skin and tissue is removed from your breasts. Many people may choose to have this surgery if their breasts are causing other medical problems. This may include pain in the neck, shoulders and back. Other problems may include rashes and infections which develop under the breasts.
Women may also choose to have breast reduction surgery to make the size of their breasts more even, especially if one is smaller than the other. As part of the procedure the breasts will be reshaped to make them smaller and the nipples will be repositioned.
Before having the cosmetic surgery procedure, there are many factors that will need to be taken into consideration. For instance, you will need to think about your body shape and if the reshaping of your breasts will complement it. If you want a severe reduction, this may affect the final shape of the breasts, so a more moderate and gradual reduction is usually recommended for a better result. Women also need to understand that the size of their breasts will alter in accordance with their body weight. So if you put on some weight or become pregnant after having this cosmetic surgery, your breasts may get bigger once again.
The procedure itself will usually take between two and four hours. The surgeon will remove excess tissue by making cuts on the lower parts of the breast and the nipples will then be moved to accommodate the new shape.
