What happens during a Breast Uplift surgery?

Your surgeon will make an incision underneath your breast, following the natural curve, and then around the nipple and downwards, forming a ‘keyhole’ shape. Excess skin will be removed, following which your nipple will be re-positioned, resulting in a lifting and firming of the breasts. The incisions are stitched, often with dissolvable stitches and dressings are applied. It’s likely that you will be given a special surgical support bra to wear.

What is the duration of a Breast Uplift surgery?

A breast uplift procedure, performed under general anaesthetic, usually takes around two to three hours or so. Depending on the time and duration of your procedure, it could be a day case or you may have an overnight stay in the hospital.

How do I plan my Breast Uplift surgery?

Initially your botonics surgeon will evaluate your health, conduct a physical examination, and assess your suitability for the procedure. Tell your surgeon about your lifestyle, ie: how much you drink, if you smoke, are on any medications, vitamins, or other drugs.
Be open about your expectations and he, in turn, will describe your options as well as the risks and limitations of each.
Once you book your procedure, rest assured knowing that all the associated costs will be included in the price quoted (anaesthesia, the location for your surgery, the recovery schedule and aftercare).
You will be given specific instructions on preparing for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins, and medications. If you develop a cold or infection of any kind, your surgery will probably be postponed. Whether your surgery is done on an outpatient or inpatient basis, arrange for someone to drive you home afterwards, and be available to help you out for a day or two if needed.
Our surgeons perform breast reduction procedures in an operating theatre in one of London’s prestigious private hospitals. Most patients remain in the hospital overnight but some are able to go home on the day of the surgery.

Am I a good candidate for Breast Uplift surgery?

If you are healthy overall, not pregnant or breast-feeding, and seeking an effective uplift to saggy breasts, a breast uplift (mastopexy) surgery could be your answer. A breast uplift can enhance your appearance and increase your self-confidence, but of course having realistic expectations is key as is fully understanding the procedure along with the associated risks.

I live outside of the UK. Is it possible for me to be assessed before I travel to London?

Yes, we often treat patients who are from overseas and so we have a well refined process to assess your medical suitability and prepare you for a breast reduction procedure prior to your travel.

Will my results look natural?

Our aim is to produce as natural looking a result as is possible. Ask your botonics surgeon for before and after pictures to get a better idea of what to expect.

What kind of scarring should I expect following a Breast Uplift?

There will be scarring at the incision points, which will be very noticeable for the first few months. Over time these will change from pink to white, and gradually start to fade. Whilst the scars will never disappear completely, the appearance can be further reduced with the helps of cortisol creams and silicone sheeting.
Many people feel this is small price to pay versus the difference in their lives, and how they feel, following the procedure. Bear in mind though that the scarring can be made worse if you do not follow the aftercare advice closely such as refrain from any heavy lifting and physical activity. Check with your botonics surgeon if you are unsure.

I am from abroad, how long before I can fly home?

When it’s appropriate. It will generally be after 1-2 weeks, but since the advice for this is on a case by case basis, it would be best to check with your botonics Surgeon.

How quickly can I return to work?

We advise patients to take at least a week to two weeks off work, assuming the work is office/desk based. Your botonics surgeon will discuss this with you during your consultation and the advice will be based on what type of work you do.

When can I go back to the gym?

One month after your operation, you may recommence light gym work, returning to full normal activities by six weeks.

What are the main risks and complications of a Breast Uplift?

Every year thousands of Breast Uplifts are performed successfully. When carried out by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, the operation normally works well. Nevertheless, there are always risks with surgery and there are specific complications associated with this procedure.
In the unlikely case of an infection, antibiotics can be prescribed and, if necessary, drainage – both of which may prolong your hospital stay.
There is also a risk of asymmetry and scarring, and revision surgery may be required in this case. Skin grafting may, in rare cases, be considered if complications occur in the healing of the scar around the nipple. Swelling is a likely side effect but this should subside within a few weeks, same goes for any bruising post op.
