Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen during dermal filler treatment?

Your botonics specialist will determine the areas and extent of treatment by discussing your objectives and then use the most appropriate product to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result. Areas that can be treated include wrinkle correction and lip enhancements using original Restylane; correcting thin superficial lines, around the mouth, forehead and smile using Restylane Touch; and shaping facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, correcting deep folds, and for volume augmentation using Perlane or Sub-Q. Your Practitioner will administer several tiny injections in the areas to be treated.

Do I have to be a certain age to have dermal filler treatment?

Dermal filler treatments are generally thought to be safe to use in individuals aged between 18 and 65. Wrinkle and line treatment will usually be of benefit to those 25 years or older.

Do you treat patients that are 17 years of age?

Clients need to be 18 years of age in order to sign their own consent form prior to treatment. We do sometimes treat clients that are 17 years of age at our sole discretion, provided both parents/guardians consent to the treatment and at least one of them attends all appointments with the client.

How long does dermal filler treatment take?

The treatment can usually be done in about 10 – 15 minutes and no recovery time is needed (see Aftercare instructions). The only visible signs that you’ve had anything done are some potential redness or minor bruising around the injection points. However, this is very minor and many people have a Dermal filler treatment in their lunchtime and return to work in the afternoon.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t have dermal filler treatment?

During your consultation, a medical history will be taken to assess any risks that would preclude treatment. We recommend you review the Aftercare instructions to be aware of the Do’s and Don’ts post treatment.

Will I look unnatural after dermal filler treatment?

At botonics, we strive for a natural looking result via subtle improvements. Friends may comment that you look more relaxed, but treatment will not radically alter your appearance; it will simply reduce lines and wrinkles.

Can I have a dermal filler treatment in the same appointment as my consultation?

Yes, this is possible. All treatments are subject to medical and aesthetic suitability. If you have done your research and are reasonably confident you will wish to proceed with treatment and let us know that before booking, we can reserve enough time for both your consultation and treatment in the same appointment provided both you and the specialist are happy to proceed.  Make sure to familiarise yourself with the precare advice to minimise downtime and get the best results from your treatment.

What is the possibility of there being an allergic reaction from a dermal filler treatment?

Everything causes an allergy to someone, somewhere (e.g. strawberries cause allergic reactions to 1 in 1,000 people). The dermal filler we use for our treatments is highly biocompatible and completely non-animal derived, so the incidence of severe allergic reaction is extremely low (thought to be about 1 in 40,000). It is not unusual to have short term bruising and swelling caused by the injection. Because we use temporary fillers, if there is a severe allergic response, we can inject an enzyme to instantly dissolve the dermal filler.

Are there any side effects from dermal filler treatment?

There is a wide range of potential side effects, some of which are very rare (e.g. blindness, necrosis), some of which are unlikely (e.g. allergic response, infection) and some that are likely (e.g. bruising, swelling). The risks are explained to you during your consultation.

What are the chances of blindness?

The risk is extremely low, but not zero, so any reputable clinic will inform and consent clients against the risk of blindness with respect to dermal filler treatments anywhere on the face (e.g. lips, cheeks, nose, tear troughs, nose to mouth lines, etc.). There are no reliable statistics, but we are aware of about 100 cases worldwide against several hundred million dermal filler treatments. We’ve never seen a case first hand, and of course we’ve never had it occur at our clinic.

Do you offer finance for non-surgical treatments?

Finance is available subject to status for treatments costing in excess of £600. You can spread the cost of a qualifying treatment over three months interest free. Finance must be approved prior to receiving treatment. Upon request, a finance application can be emailed to you.
